Muybridge was the first real inventor of capturing movement in images. In 1872 this invention came from simply trying to prove the point that whilst a horse gallops there is a point in which all 4 hooves are in the air at the same time. Up until he scientifically proved this it was thought that the front legs extend forwards whilst the back legs face behind. This was the start of his work with movement which continued for many years with the use of humans and animals as the subject.
