object stop motion

This is a short stop motion film i have created at home. I found this quite hard to create as i had no one to help me so i had to try and set the shot up with one hand and take the image with the other. Overall i am pleased with the film however i think it needs to be longer in length. If i was to recreate this i think i would find someone to help me and add the wine filling the glass further and then emptying by itself.

final evaluation

In this assignment i was asked to produce a stop motion animation made from single images taken on a camera. Along the way i researched stop animation right from the beginning with Eadweard Muybridge. I looked into flip books, zoetropes and other homemade stop motions to inspire my work. I have used a variety of equipment to help me along with learning new techniques. I have learnt how to take a stop motion aswell as producing it into a movie in final cut pro. For my final movie i created one on location. This movie is of 2 girls playing on the park. I really like this movie and think it turned out really good. However i don't think the music accompanying this is the correct choice. When doing this again i would spend more time choosing the correct music as this is a big part of any movie. I also played around with the idea of various people appearing and disappearing behind a tree. However once made this did not look as good as first planned. The main problems i encountered with this assignment was trying to get the speed of each frame correct so the movie became a fluid movement. This was finally achieved through trial and error and now i I'm confident in using this process again. Overall i am happy with all the movies i have produced in this assignment and i have enjoyed studying and producing stop motion.

Horse zoetrope at Camera Obscura

This video is showcasing one of the early ways animation was created. Lots of images with slight differences are placed in order inside a circular box. When the box is spun round it appears to the eye as one image which is moving.

 The earliest zoetrope was created in china in 180 AD however the zoetrope as we know it to be was created in 1834 by william horner. In the 1860s the idea finally became popular and was named zoetrope meanign wheel of life.

EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE

Muybridge was the first real inventor of capturing movement in images.In 1872 this invention came from simply trying to prove the point that whilst a horse gallops there is a point in which all 4 hooves are in the air at the same time. Up until he scientifically proved this it was thought that the front legs extend forwards whilst the back legs face behind. This was the start of his work with movement which continued for many years with the use of humans and animals as the subject.

This is a flipbook animation of the simpsons. This is made very well and contains many many images for it to show such fluid movement once played.

I love you

Flipbooks contain lots of pages joined together to make a book. On the opposite to the joining edge is where the main animation takes place. Each page contains the same image with ever so slight differences in them. When the pages are flicked through at speed the pictures come to life in animation.

I like the simplicity of the actual idea of this flipbook. It shows how you don't need a really elaborate idea for it to look really effective.

The first flipbook was invented in 1868. It is the first form of linear animation as all other predating animations worked via images being placed on circular objects to be spun around. Flipbooks now tend to be aimed more at young children as toys but as you can see from this film there only limits are your imagination and technical ability

This is a stop motion movie i made out on location.
To make this movie i took a series of photographs with slight movements in each one. I then dragged and dropped the file to final cut pro. Once you have done this you then need to put each individual image on to the time line. The video is then able to be viewed.

However each frame is too long so he sequence does not join together properly. To correct this you need to shorten the length of each frame. The easiest way to do this is to select all the frames and nest the items. Then select modify from the menu bar. This will show a drop down menu. Select speed from this.

Once speed is selected it opens a new window. In this window you can choose the speed the frames play at. For this film i chose 1500.

Once your speed has been corrected you need to render the film to get rid of the red bar at the top of the time line. As shown below

For this you need to select sequence and then render selection.

Whilst your video is rendering you will see this screen.

Your timeline should now look somewhat like this.

To add text to your movie select the text button on the first movie window.

Once selected this brings up a mini menu. From this select text and then text again as shown below.

Now you need to select the controls tab at the top of the viewing window. This will give you all the options to add text. The first box stating sample text is where you write what you want on your movie such as titles and credits. The font, size and alignment of this can also be edited.

Once you have decided on your text you need to click back on to the video tab in the viewing window. From this you can click on the text and drag it on to your timeline. This then needs to be modified to the length of time you wish it to run for. You also need to move it to where you want it to play.

When you think this is all correct you can nest items again. you are now ready to add music if you wish. for this you need to drag and drop the track onto A1 of your timeline as shown above. You will now need to render both video and audio. Dont forget to cut the track to the length you wish.

Your movie is now complete.

studio stop motion evaluation

The studio stop motion worked really well. The groups idea worked very well and i am very happy with the final video i have made. Everyone had input in the making of this and the choreography of the shoot went smoothly.However the overall shooting of the video was rushed and had the group had more time to do this i think we could have made it even better. There may have also been time to try a few ideas to see which worked the best when put together.If i were to do this shoot again i would like to shoot more images to make the video have a more fluid movement as at the moment it is quite jerky in places once played.I would also like to try and add different effects to it such as a fan blowing her hair to create wind in the sky.

Since the release of the Kinect in 2010 it has become apparent that its use stretches far beyond the gaming it was intended for. With custom firmware being constantly created the kinects full potential is starting to show.It is currently being used in a hospital in USA to assist Doctors whilst working in the operating theatre. The military have been testing its use for bomb disposal procedures and its use within the education field is in abundance. Alongside this the kinect can also be used within the office. It has been used as part of cctv systems to sense groups of people even in minimal visibility.A topshop store in moscow used the kinect to show customers an interactive display of their collection. Below are some example videos of the range of uses and amount of firmware available for this motion controller.

Microsoft kinect's other uses - Xbox Kinect in the hospital operating room

In the USA kinects are starting to take common place within the operating theatre. The main advantages of using this motion controller is to reduce the risk of cross contamination. Controlled by the doctors movements and voice they can check through x-rays,test results and scan pictures without having to touch anything other then the patient they are working on. They are also being used in conjunction with actually taking the scans or x-rays.

This video is looks very effective because of the use of different camera angles and close ups. The lego people move in perfect timing with the music which is difficult to do.

With this video they have chosen the music well. It fits the style of the video and the words of the song match the story line of the video.

Pancakes II: Pancakes for your face

I like the simplicity of the story line in this video. They also make good use of the props. The part i like best is the use of the flour as it is going into the bowl.

Guinness new ad - A Short Film Called Hands

This video has been put together very cleverly with using shots from the left and the right hand to create the impression of the hand twisting all the way round. The whole video runs very smoothly so you don't notice the switch between hands. The music put to this video is fun and faced paced to match the video.

The Original Human TETRIS Performance by Guillaume Reymond

The speed in which video is shown as it is a true representation of the game. This video is very clever how it has been made and lots of thought has been put into the location to add to the effect. However i think the music chosen to accompany this could have been thought out more.
